Zircon is a large group of gemstones that are often used in jewellery design and can be a cheaper alternative to diamonds. Zircon is also called "cubic zirconia" and has a variety of different colors, from bright white stones to crystal blue.
Cubic Zirconia-What Is It?
Cubic zirconia is a popular diamond simulant, a stone that has the same brilliance and shimmer of natural diamonds but is made of different materials. Unlike natural and lab-grown diamonds which are composed of carbon atoms, cubic zirconia is created from zirconium dioxide.
In addition to being attractive and inexpensive compared to natural diamonds, cubic zirconia also offers additional benefits like durability and scratch resistance - making it ideal for use as jewellery stones in everyday items like engagement rings, earrings and necklaces.
What is the difference between a zircon and a diamond?
For many, it can be difficult to differentiate between a zircon and a diamond due to their similar appearance. While diamonds are typically more expensive than zircons, the biggest difference lies in their weight and diamonds has more reflective qualities than a zircon.
Ultimately, when it comes down to choosing between these two precious gems, the deciding factor will ultimately be based on personal preference and budget.

How to storage and take care of your zircons
Keeping your zircons in a jewellery box is the best way to protect them from scratches. If you don't have one, try to find a box or container that will keep them separate from other jewellery.
Cleaning zircons can be done by mixing a few drops of mild detergent with a small amount of warm water and using a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently scrub away dirt. Make sure you rinse off all of the soap afterwards, as it can damage the surface if left on
Finally, rinse off any remaining soap with warm running water for a thorough cleanse. Keeping these precautions in mind will help preserve your zircon jewellery for years to come!
