Why choose 316L surgical steel for sensitive skin?
Jewellery is often in direct contact with your skin for many hours. A necklace rests against your neck, a ring encircles your finger and an earring touches your earlobe. That is why the material's properties in contact with skin matter as much as its appearance.
316L stainless steel naturally forms a thin, protective oxide layer on its surface. This layer helps resist corrosion and limit the release of metals from the alloy. This stable surface is an important reason why 316L surgical steel is chosen for jewellery worn against sensitive skin.
The benefit does not lie in the material being free from nickel. There is a difference between the metal content of an alloy and the metals released from its surface. The corrosion resistance of 316L steel contributes to a stable surface during everyday skin contact.
Natural silver tones or ION-plated gold finishes

What does hypoallergenic jewellery mean?
Hypoallergenic describes jewellery designed and selected with sensitive skin in mind. It is not a guarantee that everyone can tolerate every material. With 316L surgical steel, the corrosion-resistant, protective surface and its role in skin contact are key properties.
Is 316L surgical steel nickel-free?
No. 316L surgical steel contains nickel as part of its alloy. However, the total nickel content is different from the amount released from the surface. The protective oxide layer helps limit this release. Hypoallergenic and nickel-free therefore do not mean the same thing.
Can I wear the jewellery if I have a metal allergy?
Which materials your skin tolerates is individual. If you have a diagnosed metal allergy, react particularly strongly, or have previously reacted to stainless steel, ask your dermatologist which materials are right for you.
