Understanding the material and the surface

Brass is the base material, while a gold-tone or silver-tone surface describes the appearance. Silver-tone brass is not the same material as naturally silver-tone stainless steel. See each product description for information on plating, decorative details and care.

Also pay attention to the parts that touch your neck and the skin around your collarbone. The chain, pendant, jump rings and clasp are not necessarily made from the same material. You should therefore not assume that a single material description automatically applies to every part.

Nickel release, lead and cadmium

Our brass jewellery complies with EU REACH requirements for nickel release and for lead and cadmium content. Nickel release concerns the nickel that can be released during contact with the skin. It is not the same as the total nickel content of the material. Meeting these requirements does not mean that nickel, lead or cadmium are completely absent.

If you are searching for nickel-free necklaces, look at the specific material information and every part in contact with your skin. This also includes the clasp and the back of a pendant. Contact us if you would like information about a particular design. Individual sensitivity varies. Compliance with nickel-release requirements is not a guarantee that a necklace will suit everyone with a metal allergy.

Choose the right length

Consider where you want the necklace to sit: close to the neck, around the collarbone or lower down. Compare the stated chain length with a necklace you already enjoy wearing. How a design falls also depends on your neck circumference and the shape of the pendant.

Look at the pendant dimensions and the shape of your neckline. A small pendant gives a subtle detail, while a larger design needs more space. Check whether an extender chain is listed rather than assuming that every necklace can be adjusted.

Wear your necklace alone or combine several lengths

A single necklace lets its form and surface stand out clearly. When combining several designs, choose different lengths with plenty of space between the pendants. That way each shape has room to stand out on its own and move more freely.

Chains and pendants can rub against each other during wear. Also consider collars, scarves and other clothing that can create pressure or friction. If your chains become tangled, take them off and gently untangle them without pulling.

Care suited to brass

Brass necklaces are not waterproof. Remove them before bathing, swimming, exercising and cleaning. Avoid contact with perfume, sunscreen, lotion, hairspray and cleaning products. Let skincare and styling products dry before putting your necklace on.

Gently wipe your necklace with a soft, dry cloth after wear. Store it separately in a dry place, ideally so the chain does not knot. Do not use abrasive cleaners or polishing products unless the specific care guidance recommends them. Pearls, stones and other decorative materials may need special care.

Keep the skin beneath your necklace clean and dry. Remove the necklace if your skin becomes irritated. If you have a known metal allergy, you can seek advice from your dermatologist.

Brass or 316L stainless steel?

Choose brass for the particular form and surface you love, and care for your necklace by keeping it dry.
